Synoptic Day

We had a Synoptic day where we were able to film and edit a major part of our trailer.
In order to prepare for this day i made a schedule of how i planned the day to go

After synoptic day hopefully i would have a first rough out of my trailer. I could then see what scenes i needed to refilm aswell as filming any new scenes,

Testing Shots

Before I started filming i took pictures of the scenes i was going to film as a way of testing to see if they were going to work. However for some of my testing shots i was unable to use my actualy actors at the time so i use people from my Media Class. I took testing shots of the some of the mains i was going to use. I focused on my many things such as the position of the charatcer and the angle they were being filmed at.



This is a scene from my Film when we are first introduced to Nancy. It is a close up shot of her walking into the door. It is a way of introducing Nancy into the trailer.

This is the close up scene of Nancy just as she is about to talk to Josh. I placed this scene in the locker as a way of showing that this part of the film is set in school

After i took these testing shots with the still camera, i was ble to take testing shots with a video camera, using the actors i was using for my film trailer.

I made a list of the scenes in my trailor in the order i was going to film it. I decided to film the scenes in the order of the Charatcers used aswell as the location.

Introduction to Trailer

The main character of my film is called Josh. The plot is based around his beliefs on love and how they change throughout the film when he meets Nancy. In order to create the persona of Josh, i decided to put in a scene of Josh talking to the audience right at the beginning of the trailer. He is talking about love and his lack of belief in it. I believed this was an effective way of bringing across his character and the part it plays in the film.

I took this technique from the film Ferris Bullers Day off. Throughout the film Ferris talks to the audience. this allows them to get a sense of his rebellious out going personality.




This is also used in High Fidelity in which the main character talks to the audience althought the film.

Photo Editing

After i took the photos I was to use for the Magazine cover and Film poster, i had to edit them on Photo shop. I had already practiced using Photo shop with images from the Internet.


I used tools to edit my photos like taking way the background and putting in the front titles.
I experiemented with different fonts and colours to see which would be the best in protraying the conventions. I took out the brick background from the orginal picture. I used the magic eraser tool.















I experiemented with different backgrounds and font styles to see which one looked best. I experimented with taking away the back and using different colours and seeing what effect they. I also experimented with the fonts styles and colours and to see how they stood out amoung the background.

Photos

I had to take photos i would use for For my Magazine Cover and Film Poster.

Tagline

For my Film I need to feature a tag line. I needed a tag line which gave a indication of the storyline but didn't give the plot away. It needed to be catchy ,remember able and original.
I decided to come up with the catch line
"Its not about believing in love ; Its about believing in her"

I believed this tag line was suitable for my film considering it gave an indication of Josh's non belief of love and the fact that he falls in love with Nancy.

Institutional Research

I am making a Romantic Teen film I have decided to use a mainstream institution. One of the institutions that i have look at is 20th century fox. By using an mainstream institution i have to use many mainstream conventions such as celebrities used, meaning that the star persona is a big selling point.
As well as having a plot which follows the conventions of its genre.





They have made a many romantic stories based around young people. Many of the films that i have looked at are in a school setting and focus on a relationship that needs to over come a conflict. These films share some of the conventions of the trailer i am making.




I have to come up with name of my Institution as well as an symbol to represent it.
I came up with the name for my production and distribution.

I came up with this name by using my initials.I thought it was good considering it was short and easy to remember. I am using a mainstream company to produced a high budget teen romance.

Sound Research

I looked at songs used in romantic films based around young couples. I looked at the song Sweet desposition used in 500 days of Summer and the song I want you to want me in Ten things i hate about you.
It was quite a challenge trying to find music to use in my trailer considering that the music needed to be non copyright. I had to look at free music non copy right sites where i could download music to use for my trailer.







I had to find music which would be suitable for my trailer. Considering i was doing a romantic teenage film, i was looking for some music which was deep and intense. As well as having some music which was slightly upbeat and fun.

Title Screen Research

In my Trailer i feature at title screen instead of using a voice over.
I looked at other title screens to see the generic conventions.

Effects in Film

In my Film Poster I am going to give the images an Sketchy look. It would give the film an more abstract theme.This technique has been used in many films such as Juno and 500 days of Summer.
I intent to use this in my Film Poster as an indication that it will be featured in the film but not inthe actaul film trailor i am making.





I used this technique on my film poster as a way of portraying something about my main charatcer who lacks belief in love. I am going to use a colour picture to show the contrast  of him and the difference it makes when he meets Nancy.

Magazine Cover Mock Up

This is the mock up of my Film Magazine Cover. I have included the name I will use and the font styles and colours. I have also drawn the picture which i am going to use. I have shown an indication of where the article headlines will go.
I have used many mainstream conventions such as putting the image over the title of the magazine because it suggest that the audience already familiar with the brand.

Flim Poster Mock Up

This is the mock up i have drawn for my Film poster. It shows the pictures and colours i wish to have on my film poster. I will take photos and edit them on photoshop.

I took inspiration from the 500 days of summer poster .

Photo Editing

In order to use the photos i took for the magazine cover and film poster i needed to learn how to edit them first. We used photo shop to learn how to edit our photos. We needed to edit them in order for them to have the usual conventions of a Film such as the font, colour and background.





We learnt how to use many tools such as to put backgrounds in, change colours schemes, change the scale of picture as well as putting text with the image. We used the cropped bar to put pictures together and used the different layers to put in backgrounds. I will use these skills when making my Magazine cover and Film poster .

Magazine Name Research

I had to pick a name that would be suitable for a film poster as well as appealing to my target audience. I took a look at mainstream and independent film magazines inorder to look at the conventions used.

Many popular film magazine names powerful names which stand out. The Name Empire is powerful as it means that the magazines talks about the whole film empire.

The Name Total film is appealing as it means that the magazine talks about every aspect of film.

The independent film magazine is called Film Maker is appealing as it relates to the audience and makes them feel like they are the film maker.

All of these film use simple names which standout and make it obvious that the magazine is about film. All of thse conventions i need to use while planning my film name.

I have decided to come up with the name

Cinema Central

This name for a film magazine appeals to its audience as it makes it clear that it is about film and cinema. It also makes it clear that it is a mainstream magazine reporting on mainstream films. The word " central" suggest that the magazine is the centre point of film and reports on every aspect of film.

Film Name Research

I had to pick a suitable name for my film which would suit the genre of my film as well as being suitable for my storyline. I looked at many names for films to see what conventions they had and shared.

The name 500 days of Summer applies to the film the storyline is set over 500 days. As well as this the main character is called summer. The audience may not automatically suggest that one of the main characters is called Summer and may mistake it for the season. They may only release this once they've seen the film or been told about it.

The name Ferris Buellers Days Off applies to the film as Ferris Bueller as he is the main character of the film. This automatically shows the audience that he is the main character and that the film is central around him. The phrase " day off" also gives an implication of the storyline. This could be appealing as the audience suggest that the film is fun and youth based.

Conventions of a teen romantic film give a slight implication of the storyline so that they are able to appeal to the audience. As well as this they may mention a character in the film.

For my Film i have decided to go with the name

Chasing Sunset

This is suitable for my Film considering the storyline is based around the characters Josh and Nancy spending a day looking for a car. The Car's name is Sunset. The teenagers are chasing around for the car Sunset. As well as this the the main character Josh is trying to gain the affection of Nancy. The name could also mean that he is trying to chase Nancy.

Location Scouting

Considering that my trailer had to be filmed in school grounds it meant that my location ideas where limited. However this made me use my imagination and see the different ideas i could use in my school area.
These are some of the place which i am planning on filming in.





Some of my trailer is in a school setting which means i am using typical school scenes such as lockers. I am setting some of my trailer outside of school, which means that i am using parts of school which do not look school based such as the bench.
