The trailer starts off with the main couple holding hands.
The voice over then says " this is not a love story, this is a story about love"
This is used as a selling point as the audience may be intrigued to this not being a typical love story and being a subversion.
The title screen constantly appears enforcing the name of the film. The colour of the title screen constantly changes colour which could reflect the constant changing moods and the development though out the film. The
Through the trailer there is no dialogue from the characters, just the voice over which is a typical convention of film trailers.
The voice over constantly says 500 days
"500 days of" E.g 500 days of Los angles, 500 days of promises" This is a typical convention of teaser trailers.
This is a way of expressing the journey the two characters go on.
The use of the phrase 500 days of summer emphasises the importance of the time period.
A spilt screen is used as way of splitting the two characters and showing the differences they share. This is way of showing the conflict during the film. This is used in contrast to the happy scenes used.
In a scene they use rotoscope, which gives the film a more abstract, arty comic book feel. This is another way this is subverted.
The director of the film is not given showing that it is not expected to be used as a selling point. Also the name of the main stars are not given until towards the end of the trailer. However considering it character based, the stars could be used as a selling point to those who have seen them before.
The close up of the characters though tout the film creates emphasis on the two character enforcing that they are the central to the plot.
The music used is the same song though out the trailer, which could show that this is the theme tune to the film. This is used as a selling point as people will automatically associate the song with the film.
